Skyward (2021)
for unaccompanied oboe
Duration: 3’00”
Skyward was commissioned by ToniMarie
Marchioni, professor of oboe at the University of Kentucky. She
was looking for a piece based on a painting by a Kentucky artist that
would be appropriate for a children's concert of K-3 students. I chose
this very cool (and very 'Kentucky') painting by Darrell Ishmael which
you can see here
(scroll down for a bit), then proceeded to write a very difficuly,
very flashy piece that children of all ages would be excited to hear.
It will receive it's premiere performance in Fall 2021 at the University
of Kentucky.
